Preventive Oral Cancer Screening

At Lake Hills Family Dentistry, we include oral cancer screenings as part of your regular dental checkup to help catch any early warning signs of cancer or precancerous conditions in the mouth. Since oral cancer can develop without obvious symptoms, early detection is essential. Our screenings are quick, comfortable, and designed to identify potential issues at their earliest and most treatable stages.

Oral cancer can affect the lips, tongue, cheeks, floor of the mouth, roof of the mouth, throat, and sinuses. During your visit, we thoroughly examine your mouth, head, and neck for anything unusual, such as patches, sores, or lumps that may require closer attention. Certain risk factors like tobacco use, alcohol consumption, HPV infection, sun exposure, family history, and age over 40 can increase the need for regular screenings. If we notice anything out of the ordinary, we’ll walk you through the next steps and make sure you receive timely follow-up care.
